Four Killed in Park Avenue Shooting; Motive CTE Grievance

On July 28, 2025, Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas with a history of mental illness, opened fire at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, killing four people—including NYPD officer Didarul Islam—before dying by suicide. Tamura targeted the skyscraper, which houses the NFL headquarters, reportedly due to grievances about the league's handling of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE); a note on his body requested his brain be studied. Armed with an M4 rifle, Tamura had traveled from Las Vegas to New York prior to the attack. The shooting caused chaos as employees, including those at Blackstone, barricaded themselves inside. The incident also drew controversy when CNN anchor Erin Burnett was criticized for her comments on the shooter's race. Authorities are continuing to investigate Tamura’s motives and actions.
