San Bernardino Deputy Killed Suspect Crashes During 150 MPH Police Chase
Angelo Jose Saldivar, 47, is accused of shooting San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Nunez, 28, in the head during a Rancho Cucamonga domestic-violence response; Nunez later died and leaves behind a pregnant wife and a 2-year-old daughter. After the shooting, Saldivar fled on a motorcycle and led officers on a live-aired, high-speed chase on the 210 Freeway, reaching reported speeds of roughly 150–170 mph while weaving through traffic and at times riding hands-free. The pursuit ended when an off‑duty San Bernardino narcotics deputy in an unmarked vehicle performed a pursuit-intervention maneuver and deliberately collided with the motorcycle, throwing Saldivar from the bike; officers then subdued and handcuffed him. Saldivar was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition and is expected to face charges as prosecutors are treating the case as the murder of a peace officer. Footage of the ten-minute chase drew national attention, and policing experts told reporters the off‑duty deputy’s intervention was likely justified given the suspect’s alleged homicide and the public threat posed by the high-speed flight.
