Hamas Conditionally Accepts Trump's Gaza Plan
Hamas said Friday it would accept significant elements of President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire proposal — including releasing all Israeli hostages (alive and dead) and handing Gaza's administration to a technocratic Palestinian body — and said it was ready to enter mediated negotiations. The group qualified its acceptance, saying releases depend on “necessary field conditions,” leaving disarmament unresolved and calling for broader Palestinian consultations on remaining points. Mr. Trump said Hamas appeared ready for lasting peace, demanded Israel immediately halt bombing so hostages could be recovered safely, and gave Hamas a hard Sunday deadline under threat of severe consequences. Israel has agreed to the plan and international mediators have welcomed elements, but Egypt, Qatar and others say key parts require further negotiation, leaving it unclear how Washington and Jerusalem will respond to the partial acceptance. The White House proposal envisions a staged Israeli withdrawal, large prisoner exchanges, international oversight and a temporary technocratic authority for Gaza, but details including verification and enforcement mechanisms remain contested.
