Driver Pleads Guilty Causing Baby Death, Injuring Pregnant Woman in Lancashire Hit-and-Run
Ashir Shahid, 20, has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a baby by dangerous driving after hitting a pregnant woman on a pedestrian crossing in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire. The collision occurred on Station Road near the junction with Longbrook Avenue and Fourfields on September 29, 2024, leaving the woman, in her 30s, with serious injuries. She underwent emergency surgery to deliver her baby boy, who later died in hospital. Shahid was also charged with causing serious injury to the woman and was remanded in custody to be sentenced on August 14, 2025. A 16-year-old boy from Walton-le-Dale pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and will be sentenced alongside Shahid. Lancashire Police led the investigation following the hit-and-run incident, which deeply affected the local community.
