Statewide DWI Taskforces Launch for Cinco de Mayo Weekend

Law enforcement agencies across the U.S. are intensifying efforts to prevent impaired driving during Cinco de Mayo, a holiday now closely associated with a spike in alcohol-related crashes. In Texas, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with 16 partner agencies from Montgomery and Harris Counties, is deploying a multi-agency DWI Task Force with a NO REFUSAL enforcement initiative, emphasizing arrests for those driving under the influence and encouraging the use of designated drivers or rideshare services. Arizona is also implementing a statewide DUI taskforce, with officers from 50 agencies patrolling roadways to deter and arrest impaired drivers, highlighting the financial and personal costs of DUIs. These efforts are part of a broader push to enhance public safety and reduce fatalities, with officials urging responsible celebration and advance planning. The campaigns are conducted in collaboration with district attorneys and highway safety offices to ensure swift processing of DWI cases.
