Juvenile Charged in East Birmingham Teen Homicide

Birmingham police are investigating two separate shooting incidents involving juveniles this month. In the early hours of July 30, a juvenile was shot in the 100 block of Carol Drive and suffered life-threatening injuries; no suspects have been apprehended yet. Earlier, on July 25 in the Gate City neighborhood, a 17-year-old named Reginald Pope was fatally shot inside an apartment, and a juvenile has been charged with reckless manslaughter in connection to his death. Police detained all witnesses and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have noted a significant reduction in homicides compared to the previous year but emphasize the challenges of preventing all violent incidents.
