South Bend Airport Plans $14M Expansion To Improve Traffic Flow

South Bend International Airport is undertaking a multi-million-dollar expansion project, estimated between $12 million and $14 million, aimed at improving traffic flow and passenger comfort in response to record-breaking passenger growth. The renovation will include the creation of separate commercial lanes for taxis and buses, as well as a distinct lane for private vehicles to reduce congestion near the terminal. The project will also update the terminal facade and add larger canopies to protect travelers from inclement weather. Construction is planned to begin in the summer and complete by the end of summer 2026, with funding sourced from airport revenues rather than local taxes. Airport officials are finalizing detailed plans and ensuring minimal disruption during construction, while also planning restroom upgrades to enhance the overall customer experience. This expansion is part of broader efforts to position South Bend International Airport as a more efficient, visually appealing, and future-forward regional air travel hub.
