Ukraine Faces Over 200 Clashes, 1,050 Russian Losses May 28
On May 28, Ukraine experienced over 200 combat clashes, including 205 attacks, leading to approximately 1,050 Russian military casualties, with total Russian losses nearing 985,000 since the invasion began, according to the Ukrainian General Staff. Russian forces conducted extensive missile strikes, airstrikes, and drone attacks targeting multiple regions including Sumy, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia, while Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled numerous assaults across key fronts such as Kharkiv and Kupiansk. Over the past week, Russian forces gained 52 square miles of Ukrainian territory, a slight decrease from the previous week, while Ukraine lost 4 square miles in Russian border areas, with Russia controlling about 19% of Ukraine's territory overall. In response to the conflict, an Estonia- and Luxembourg-led IT coalition pledged over €1.1 billion to support Ukraine's digital defense capabilities, focusing on secure communications and battlefield technology. A recent poll revealed that 82% of Russian-speaking Ukrainians hold a negative view of Russia despite Kremlin narratives, with strong support for Ukraine's Armed Forces and a majority opposing territorial concessions or reductions in military strength. Additionally, former U.S. President Donald Trump warned Russian President Vladimir Putin against escalating the conflict, cautioning that he is "playing with fire."
