Volatus Aerospace Acquires UK Drone Technology to Boost Canadian Defense Manufacturing
Volatus Aerospace, a Canadian leader in aerial intelligence and unmanned aircraft systems, has acquired advanced remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) technologies from UK-based Caliburn Holdings for 2 million Canadian dollars. This strategic acquisition includes three scalable drone platforms with long-endurance capabilities ranging from 12 hours up to seven days and payload capacities between 15 and 50 kilograms, designed for missions such as border security, surveillance, Arctic and maritime patrol, and infrastructure inspection. The full UK engineering team responsible for the technology will relocate to Volatus's Innovation and Drone Manufacturing Facility in Mirabel, Quebec, to oversee production, testing, and certification, ensuring that critical aerospace innovation, jobs, and intellectual property remain in Canada. The acquisition aligns with Canada's goal to strengthen sovereign aerospace and defense manufacturing capabilities, support NATO and allied partners, and expand domestic production capacity at Volatus's new Mirabel hub. Volatus plans to leverage this technology to bolster national defense, public security, and critical infrastructure applications while exploring export opportunities to allied nations. This move is expected to reinforce Canada's position in the global aerospace sector and contribute to meeting NATO's defense spending targets.
