North Korea Permanently Enshrines Nuclear Statehood in Law
North Korea has declared its status as a nuclear-armed state permanently enshrined in its supreme law and irreversible, strongly rejecting U.S. demands for denuclearisation as a grave political provocation and an interference in its internal affairs. The country's United Nations mission criticized the U.S. and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stating that the IAEA lacks the legal authority to intervene given North Korea's withdrawal from the agency in 1994 and its non-participation in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Pyongyang condemned U.S. nuclear arms buildup as undermining global non-proliferation efforts while defending its nuclear arsenal as an essential deterrent against U.S. threats. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has emphasized advancing both nuclear and conventional forces, including developing a new intercontinental ballistic missile powered by a high-thrust solid-fuel engine. The regime has consistently refused dialogue offers from the U.S. and South Korea, signaling a firm stance on maintaining and advancing its nuclear capabilities. This declaration marks a continued escalation of North Korea's nuclear posture amid ongoing international tensions.
