Danielle Fishel Cuts Hair, Gives Locks to Boy Meets World Fans
Danielle Fishel, known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World, revealed that she actually cut her own long hair on the 1996 episode "Hair Today, Goon Tomorrow," and gave pieces of it to the live studio audience as souvenirs. Despite initial resistance from executive producer Michael Jacobs, who insisted on writing an episode around the haircut, Fishel persisted and negotiated how much hair she could cut, marking it as her first adult haircut. Fishel had only one previous haircut at age two and had long hair down to her waist with ringlet curls before deciding to chop it on the show. The haircut scene was a pivotal moment for her character Topanga, symbolizing a personal transformation and the challenge of insecurities. Fans and viewers were surprised to learn the hair was real and not a wig, adding to the authenticity of the moment. Fishel shared these memories during a recent episode of the rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, which she cohosts with former co-stars.
