Archer Expands Launch Edition Fleet, Partners with Indonesia for Up to 50 Midnight eVTOLs
Archer Aviation has expanded its 'Launch Edition' program by partnering with PT. Industri Ketahanan Nasional (IKN) to deploy its Midnight electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Indonesia, marking the third country for deployment after the UAE and Ethiopia. The agreement includes plans for PT. IKN to purchase up to 50 Midnight aircraft, valued at approximately $250 million, aimed at establishing commercial air taxi services and exploring additional use cases such as logistics and environmental surveillance. Archer will collaborate with Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to develop regulatory frameworks and operational infrastructure necessary for the program's success. The Midnight aircraft is designed as a piloted electric air taxi carrying up to four passengers with reduced noise and emissions, featuring redundant safety systems. In addition, Archer is working with GKN Aerospace in the UK to manufacture key airframe components, including the wing for the Midnight aircraft, leveraging GKN's expertise in lightweight aerostructures and electrical systems to support Archer’s production ramp-up and commercial launch. This global expansion and manufacturing collaboration underscore Archer's commitment to advancing sustainable aviation and expanding its market reach in emerging regions.
