Newcastle Teen Shot Dead at Car Meetup

Ekampreet Singh Sahni, 18, was shot dead in the chest during a car enthusiasts' meetup at Bar Beach carpark in Newcastle, NSW, late Wednesday night, following an altercation between two groups. A man exited a stolen white SUV, fired at Sahni, and fled the scene. Paramedics attempted to save Sahni, but he died at the scene. The SUV was later found burnt out in Tingira Heights, about 15-20 minutes from the shooting location. The day after the incident, a 22-year-old man turned himself in at Newcastle police station with his lawyer but has not yet been charged. NSW Police and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad continue to investigate the case, which they described as a 'senseless' act of violence.
