Yamashita Wins Maybank Championship in Playoff

Miyu Yamashita came from eight strokes back with a bogey-free 7-under 65 to win the LPGA Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, sinking a 20-foot birdie on the first playoff hole to defeat Hye-Jin Choi and Hannah Green. The victory is Yamashita’s second LPGA title in her first full season and adds to her Women’s British Open major earlier in the year. She earned a large share of the $3 million purse and extended a season that includes 11 top-10 finishes. Choi, who led by four entering the final round, shot a 73 and now has 29 top-10 finishes without a tour win, while Green birdied the 18th to force the three-way playoff. Play was disrupted by rain delays on the rain-soaked course.
