Tennessee Guard Ruby Whitehorn Charged in Marijuana Case

Senior guard Ruby Whitehorn was charged with misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana after a University of Tennessee traffic stop at 4:31 a.m. on Oct. 30, when police say officers confiscated 5.59 grams from the vehicle. The stop occurred hours after Whitehorn scored 18 points in Tennessee’s 148–48 exhibition win over Columbus State. This is her second legal matter since an Aug. 8 arrest on aggravated burglary and domestic assault charges; she later accepted a judicial-diversion plea to two misdemeanors — vandalism and aggravated criminal trespass — that requires probation, anger-management and other conditions for eventual expungement and led to her reinstatement. Whitehorn, a transfer from Clemson who averaged 11.6 points and 4.0 rebounds last season, plans to plead not guilty in the new case and her attorney said she expects a positive outcome. The university and coach have said they are aware and are awaiting additional information. Her participation and any disciplinary action are uncertain as Tennessee prepares to open the season against NC State.
