Hyman Eligible Nov. 1, Still Week-to-Week After Surgery
Zach Hyman is progressing in his recovery from a right-wrist injury that required surgery in the Western Conference Final and recently participated in his first full team practice since the operation. Although he becomes eligible to come off long-term injured reserve on Nov. 1, head coach Kris Knoblauch said Hyman remains “week-to-week,” will need at least another week beyond that date, and has been ruled out for the upcoming games against the Rangers and Blackhawks. Hyman says he feels close and ready but understands team doctors must prevent setbacks. The Oilers have missed his scoring and physical presence — he had 27 goals last season and was a team leader in playoff physical impact — and expect his return in early-to-mid November to boost goal scoring, net-front play and power-play depth. Edmonton is taking a cautious approach to protect Hyman’s long-term health and the season.
