San Diego County Launches Dashboard on Tijuana River Sewage Crisis

San Diego County, in partnership with UC San Diego's Resilient Shield, has launched an interactive online dashboard that provides real-time updates on the environmental and health impacts of the ongoing Tijuana River sewage crisis. This dashboard consolidates data from multiple agencies, offering residents a centralized source for beach water quality readings, air pollution levels, sewage odor reports, and spill locations, which were previously scattered across various websites. The tool aims to better inform and protect South Bay communities most affected by the cross-border sewage problem, but it also includes information relevant to the wider region, extending as far north as San Clemente. County officials highlight the dashboard's role in empowering residents to take action, with features that track current hazards and offer guidance on health precautions and reporting pollution. The project coincides with ongoing local, state, and federal efforts to address the root causes of sewage contamination, while resources like free air purifiers and health advisory programs are being rolled out to affected neighborhoods. Future updates to the dashboard are expected to include infectious disease and animal health data, enhancing its capacity as a comprehensive public health tool.
