Amazon Debuts Amelia Glasses, Blue Jay Robots
At its Delivering the Future event, Amazon unveiled Amelia — AI-powered heads-up smart glasses for delivery drivers — alongside the multi-arm Blue Jay warehouse robot and other logistics tools. Amelia offers turn-by-turn walking navigation, package scanning and hands-free proof-of-delivery photos, adds hazard detection (e.g., pets) and features to help locate the correct package inside vans, supports prescription and transition lenses, and pairs with a vest-mounted controller that houses swappable batteries, controls and an emergency button; the glasses are in North American pilot tests with hundreds of drivers. The wearable is part of a broader logistics overhaul that includes the Blue Jay robots, Project Eluna agentic-AI operations manager, packaging and defect-detection tools, VR training, vehicle scanners and digital maps, and investments in regional inventory, e-cargo bikes and electric vans to compress the costly “last 100 yards.” Amazon says the AI-driven systems are intended to shave seconds off deliveries, improve driver safety and productivity, and enable faster same-day or within-hour service as it scales and adds future real-time defect-detection features. Critics and labor advocates warn increased monitoring and efficiency drives could raise workload and safety pressure on delivery workers, and questions remain about rollout speed and regulation.
