Avengers: Doomsday Adds Major Marvel Crossover

Production for Avengers: Doomsday is underway in London, with Anthony Mackie confirming that filming is still ongoing and describing the set as a large, dynamic environment with an evolving story. The movie will feature a major crossover, bringing together the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Thunderbolts, and returning MCU mainstays including Mackie as Captain America. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU in a new role as Doctor Doom, who replaces Kang the Conqueror as the film's main villain due to studio changes. Doctor Doom's character is inspired by his pivotal role in Marvel's 2015 Secret Wars comics, and his introduction is expected to be significant despite limited buildup. Mackie also previewed the continuation of the dynamic between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, as well as the film's emotional depth and high stakes reminiscent of Endgame. The Russo brothers are directing, and Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
