Zelenskyy Praises Ukrainian Intelligence for Killing Russian Generals
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly praised Ukraine's foreign intelligence service for the elimination of several top Russian military figures since the start of the war, emphasizing that 'justice inevitably is done.' While Zelenskyy's remarks did not specifically reference recent incidents, they coincided with reports of the killing of Yaroslav Moskalik, deputy head of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, in a car bomb near Moscow—a strike for which Russia has blamed Ukraine, though Kyiv has not formally commented. These targeted attacks are part of a broader Ukrainian intelligence campaign against Russian military leadership and alleged collaborators, with Ukrainian agencies also reporting operations against Russian agent networks and saboteurs within Ukraine. In addition, Ukraine's SBU intelligence service previously claimed responsibility for the killing of another senior Russian general, Igor Kirillov, in December. Russian authorities have detained a Ukrainian national in connection with the recent car bombing, while Russian officials and media have publicly mourned Moskalik, describing him as a significant military figure. Observers note that these high-profile assassinations mark an intensification of covert actions amid the ongoing conflict.
