Senior Nurses, Midwives Graduate Leadership Programme Doncaster

Several initiatives across nursing and social work education are focusing on leadership, mental health, and improving patient care. At Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, senior nurses and midwives completed a six-month leadership programme emphasizing inclusive, high-quality leadership and quality improvement projects aimed at reducing health inequalities and enhancing patient care. Meanwhile, Ontario faces a mental health crisis exacerbated by insufficient mental health training in nursing curricula, leading to underprepared nurses and fragmented care for patients with mental illness. In Washington, D.C., the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship convened nurse leaders nationwide to develop leadership and policy skills, including strategic communications to amplify nursing voices in public discourse. Additionally, graduates from the University of North Dakota's Master of Social Work program are making an impact in mental health therapy and advocacy, driven by a commitment to social justice and healing. Collectively, these efforts highlight a growing emphasis on equipping healthcare professionals with leadership, specialized knowledge, and advocacy skills to better serve diverse patient populations.
