Cape Town Wildfire Burns 2,600 Hectares, Containment Efforts Ongoing
The wildfire that had been affecting large areas of Table Mountain National Park, including Tokai, Silvermine, Constantia Nek, and nearby communities, has now been successfully contained according to SANParks. Firefighting teams, supported by aerial units and volunteers from various agencies, worked tirelessly to manage the blaze, which burned approximately 2,600 to 3,000 hectares of parkland but caused no structural damage. Authorities have cautioned the public to avoid the recently burned and still unstable regions, as hotspots remain and restoration efforts are beginning. Trail closures remain in effect, and hikers and cyclists are urged to comply with all safety instructions. The efforts and support from community groups, organizations, and volunteers have been acknowledged and appreciated by SANParks. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area during the night to ensure any flare-ups are promptly addressed.
