Protesters Arrested Inside NY Senators’ Offices
Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters, including New York City Council Member Tiffany Cabán and State Assembly Member Claire Valdez, were arrested inside the Manhattan offices of U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand after police cleared the lobby. Organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, the demonstration condemned the senators’ votes against resolutions to stop U.S. arms sales to Israel amid widespread famine and acute malnutrition in Gaza. Protesters banged pots and pans, demanding an end to the blockade on aid and accusing Israel of starving Palestinian civilians, while criticizing U.S. lawmakers' complicity. The arrests were part of a broader wave of actions across multiple U.S. cities. Growing international pressure is evident as several Western countries are considering recognizing a Palestinian state unless substantive changes occur in Gaza. Critics argue that a lack of U.S. action in response to the crisis constitutes a failure of leadership.
