X-energy Plans Gaithersburg Headquarters, 525 Jobs, Frederick Testing Facility
X-energy, a Maryland-based advanced nuclear reactor and fuel technology company, is consolidating its two Rockville offices into a new 125,000-square-foot headquarters at Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg, creating over 525 new jobs in addition to retaining 260 existing positions. The company is also expanding by purchasing a 90,000-square-foot facility in Frederick to serve as its first integrated test and training center for non-nuclear testing, prototyping, and operator training using a state-of-the-art plant control room simulator. This expansion is supported by conditional loans and grants from the Maryland Department of Commerce and Montgomery County, as well as various state and local tax credits. Governor Wes Moore and Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich praised X-energy's growth as a significant investment in clean energy innovation and economic development, emphasizing the benefits for Maryland's workforce and its leadership in next-generation nuclear technology. X-energy CEO J. Clay Sell highlighted the company's commitment to Maryland as it enters a period of unprecedented growth and the importance of partnerships to enhance the state's competitive edge in energy and sustainability sectors. The company aims to strengthen Maryland's position as a national leader in clean, reliable nuclear energy generation.
