Crew Member Stabs Colleague Then Dies Jumping Overboard on Icon of Seas

On July 24, a violent incident occurred aboard Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, when a 35-year-old South African crew member stabbed a 28-year-old female South African colleague multiple times in a crew area. The male crew member then fled the scene and jumped overboard; despite a prompt search and rescue operation, he was found unconscious and later pronounced dead by onboard medical staff. The female crew member survived and is currently in stable condition after receiving medical treatment. The ship was sailing near the Bahamas at the time, en route to Royal Caribbean's private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, during a seven-night cruise. Royal Caribbean described the incident as a "personal dispute" and expressed condolences to the deceased crew member's family while respecting the privacy of those involved. Authorities in the Bahamas have launched an investigation, including an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the man's death, which is currently presumed to be suicide.
