David F. Sandberg to Direct New Amityville Horror Reimagining for Amazon MGM
David F. Sandberg, known for directing films like "Lights Out," "Annabelle: Creation," and "Until Dawn," is set to helm a new reimagining of "The Amityville Horror" for Amazon MGM Studios. The script, described as a fresh take on the original 1979 horror classic, is being written by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, the duo behind "The Conjuring: Last Rites," which has been a recent box office success. Producers include Peter Safran and John Rickard of The Safran Company, with Sandberg also producing alongside executive producers Lotta Losten and Natalia Safran. This new project joins another Amityville film in development by Joseph and Vanessa Winter, highlighting ongoing interest in the franchise based on Jay Anson's 1977 book and the infamous 1974 crimes of Ronald DeFeo Jr. The story centers on the paranormal experiences of the Lutz family after moving into the house where the murders occurred. Further plot and casting details have yet to be revealed.
