Putin Appoints Delegation for Ukraine Peace Talks in Istanbul
Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed a delegation of senior officials, led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, to represent Russia at the upcoming peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul, but has not indicated that he will attend personally. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed willingness to participate in the talks only if Putin also attends, challenging the Kremlin leader to show up if he is not afraid. The Kremlin has yet to confirm Putin's presence, leaving uncertainty over the level of Russian representation. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to coordinate support and discuss advancing the peace process. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has urged Putin to come to the negotiating table, emphasizing that Ukraine has shown readiness for ceasefire and peace talks without preconditions. The situation remains a diplomatic standoff as key international actors call for direct engagement to end the war in Ukraine.
