Eugenie Bouchard Retires After Montreal Loss
Eugenie Bouchard officially retired from professional tennis after a second-round defeat to Belinda Bencic at the Canadian Open in Montreal, ending her career on home soil. The former world No. 5 and 2014 Wimbledon finalist had earlier secured her 300th career singles win in the first round against Emiliana Arango. Bouchard, who began her professional career at age 15, reflected on her achievements and expressed pride in her perseverance. She had previously hinted at postponing retirement if she won the tournament, but ultimately concluded her career as planned. Other notable results included advances by Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, and Emma Raducanu, while Stefanos Tsitsipas continued to struggle in the men's draw. Bouchard will now focus on her pickleball career, having joined the Professional Pickleball Association Tour in 2024.
