Sir Gareth Southgate open to management return

Since resigning after England’s Euro 2024 final, Sir Gareth Southgate, recently knighted, says he is “very relaxed” about being out of management and “not desperate” to return, though he will “never say never.” He has been linked with high-profile jobs including Manchester United, Wolves and Celtic but stressed a top-flight comeback is not high on his agenda. Southgate described the England role as having a unique “higher purpose” that shaped his interest in improving youth development and coaching. He is focusing on leadership work and mentoring young people, is writing a new leadership book, will present a BBC show, and plans to spend more time with family and travel. He emphasised the importance of role models and countering a “negative narrative” about the country while remaining open to future managerial opportunities.
