Rare Star Wars Figures From UK Attic Expected To Fetch £6,000 At Auction

News summary

A rare collection of 21 vintage Star Wars action figures, including mint-condition characters like Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, and the highly sought-after Yak Face, has been discovered in an attic in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, after 40 years untouched. Manufactured in the early 1980s by Palitoy at their Coalville, Leicestershire factory, these toys retain their original packaging and price tags, with some featuring unique UK-specific tri-logo packaging. Yak Face, a figure never officially sold in the US and part of the rare 'Last 17' series from Return of the Jedi, is expected to fetch around £1,000 ($1,000), while the entire collection could sell for approximately £6,000 ($8,000) at auction. The toys are being auctioned by Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall, Derbyshire, on July 24. Experts highlight that Palitoy's more modest production compared to the US has made these UK variants particularly prized among collectors on both sides of the Atlantic. Separately, Star Wars memorabilia including prop lightsabers and helmets will be auctioned at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27, with proceeds benefiting the Comic-Con Museum.
