Texarkana Man Arrested in Fatal I-30 Road Worker Hit-And-Run

News summary

George Willis, a 64-year-old man from Texarkana, has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving death, a Class B felony, in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of Arkansas Department of Transportation contractor Jonathan Gary Williams. The incident occurred on July 21, 2025, near the 18-mile marker of westbound Interstate 30 in Hempstead County, Arkansas. Williams, 44, was struck and killed while working from a specialized trailer applying reflectors to the roadway center line, when he was hit by a 2004 Buick Century, which was found disabled and abandoned at the scene. Witnesses reported that the driver fled on foot, and Arkansas State Police later identified Willis as the suspect and arranged for his surrender at the Hempstead County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $25,000. This crash was the first of three accidents on the same morning that caused significant traffic disruptions, with the latter two incidents also resulting in fatalities and injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the series of collisions on I-30 that morning.
