Two Women Critical After Rescue off Plum Island
Two women, aged 24 and 25, are in critical condition after being swept away while swimming off Plum Island Point in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on Sunday evening around 7 p.m. Emergency crews, local fishermen, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded and found both women unresponsive. Each swimmer was rescued by a different fishing boat, with one transferred to the Coast Guard for medical aid before reaching shore. Both were initially taken to Anna Jaques Hospital; one was later airlifted to a Boston hospital and the other to a Burlington hospital. Officials commended the rapid, coordinated response, especially the courageous actions of the fishermen. The incident occurred in relatively calm weather and remains under investigation by local authorities.
