Nintendo Reports 18.6% Profit Rise on Switch 2 Global Sales
Nintendo reported strong early sales of its Switch 2 console, selling over six million units within seven weeks of its June launch, with 5.8 million units sold by the end of June contributing to a significant revenue increase. The company’s net profit rose by approximately 18.6% to 96 billion yen ($640 million) in the April-June quarter, with revenue more than doubling to 572 billion yen ($3.8 billion), driven by high demand and a higher price point of about $450 compared to the original Switch's $300 launch price. Popular game titles such as "Mario Kart World" and "Donkey Kong Bananza" have supported the console’s momentum, with Nintendo maintaining its sales forecast of 15 million Switch 2 units for the fiscal year ending March 2026. Despite concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on Japanese exports, Nintendo reported these have not significantly impacted its earnings forecast or overall outlook. The company’s shares have gained roughly 30-50% this year, reflecting investor confidence amid the strong product launch and steady quarterly performance. Nintendo continues to expand its entertainment offerings, including plans for new films based on its popular franchises like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.
