Idaho State Police Aid ICE in Transporting 100 Illegal Alien Criminals
Idaho Governor Brad Little announced that the Idaho State Police will partner with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the 287(g) program to transport dangerous illegal alien criminals from Idaho jails to ICE detention facilities for deportation. This agreement, part of the jail enforcement model, allows state law enforcement to assist ICE in identifying and processing removable aliens who have been convicted of crimes and completed their sentences. The initiative supports President Trump's immigration enforcement agenda, aiming to prevent the release of these criminals back into communities, which Little described as a response to what he called reckless border policies under the Biden-Harris administration. Idaho will allocate up to $300,000 to conduct around 100 transports over the next year, primarily to a detention facility in Jefferson County, with options for out-of-state transfers for more dangerous criminals. The program has received praise from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, emphasizing the critical role of the 287(g) program in enhancing enforcement capabilities and community safety. This partnership follows state legislation and executive orders designed to increase collaboration with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
