Fond du Lac Man Hospitalized After Gas Can Explosion

A Fond du Lac, Wisconsin man was hospitalized with burns to his hands, arms, and face after attempting to light a portable fire pit in his driveway with gasoline, which caused the gas can to explode and set his clothes on fire. Emergency crews responded to the scene following reports of an explosion and contained the fire to the fire pit before transporting the victim to a local hospital. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue emphasized that gasoline is extremely flammable and can cause violent reactions when used to start recreational fires, noting the incident blew the top off the gas can, which was not recovered. Authorities reminded the public that city ordinances prohibit the use of flammable liquids in recreational fire pits and restrict their placement near structures. The fire department reiterated its warning never to use gasoline or similar substances for lighting fires, highlighting the risks involved. Police assisted with the response and investigation.
