Tate Modern Extends Weekend Hours After Record Youth Attendance

Tate Modern will extend its opening hours to stay open until 9 PM every Friday and Saturday starting September 26, 2025, making the world’s most popular modern art museum more accessible to visitors, especially young people. This decision follows a record-breaking 25th birthday weekend event that attracted over 76,000 visitors, 70% of whom were under 35, and builds upon the success of the ongoing Tate Modern Lates, a monthly evening event series that has welcomed more than 750,000 attendees since 2016. London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan praised the extension, highlighting Tate Modern’s role in transforming London’s cultural landscape and supporting the city’s vibrant night-time economy. Karin Hindsbo, Tate Modern’s director, emphasized the high demand for after-hours gallery access, particularly among young Londoners keen to engage with the city’s dynamic cultural scene. Alongside the extended weekend hours, the museum will continue its monthly Tate Modern Lates events featuring artist talks, live music, workshops, and DJ sets. This initiative aims to enhance London’s nightlife by providing free evening access to world-class art and enriching the cultural experiences available to both residents and visitors.
