Danny Boyle Confirms Cillian Murphy Joins 28 Years Later Trilogy Sequels
Danny Boyle has clarified Cillian Murphy's involvement in the new 28 Years Later trilogy, confirming that Murphy will not appear in the first film, 28 Years Later, releasing in June 2025, but will return in the sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, set for January 2026. Boyle revealed that the trilogy is interconnected, with a handover scene at the end of the first film leading into the second, where Murphy reprises his role as Jim. The third installment remains unconfirmed and will depend on the financial success of the first film, with Murphy and the team awaiting approval to proceed. Murphy is also involved as an executive producer in the trilogy and hopes to participate more actively in future films. The first film introduces new characters portrayed by Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, while maintaining ties to the original apocalypse setting. The trilogy is described as an ambitious project, with the second film directed by Nia DaCosta and the third currently lacking financing.
