Mariners Promote Top Lefty Prospect Garcia
The Seattle Mariners have promoted left-handed pitcher Brandyn Garcia from Triple-A Tacoma, marking his Major League debut and making him the first Westfield Starfires alumnus to reach the majors. Garcia, Seattle's 11th-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, is now recognized as the organization's top left-handed pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline. He has posted a 3.51 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 17 walks over 33.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season, including a 2.16 ERA in eight outings at Tacoma. Garcia's call-up addresses the Mariners' need for left-handed relief, as their bullpen has logged the fewest innings from left-handed pitchers in the league. He is expected to start in low-leverage situations but could develop into a late-inning option. To make room on the roster, right-handed reliever Juan Burgos was optioned to Triple-A.
