Ispace Plans Second Moon Landing With Swedish Art Installation

On June 5, 2025, the Japanese private lunar exploration company ispace is attempting its second uncrewed moon landing with the RESILIENCE spacecraft, targeting the Mare Frigoris region on the lunar surface. The mission carries the first European microrover, TENACIOUS, and a symbolic piece of art called The Moonhouse, a small red Swedish cottage designed by artist Mikael Genberg, which aims to add a vibrant cultural element to the gray lunar landscape. After launching in January 2025 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9, RESILIENCE's successful landing would enable TENACIOUS to deploy and place The Moonhouse on the moon, representing a pioneering blend of space exploration and art. ispace envisions this mission as a stepping stone toward establishing a sustainable human presence on the moon by 2040, including plans for a lunar city and utilizing lunar water resources for fuel.
