Russian Drone Strike Hits Sumy Railway, Energy Sites

A Russian drone strike on Shostka railway station in Sumy region wounded at least 30 people and set a passenger carriage bound for Kyiv ablaze, with emergency crews treating the injured and accounting for victims. Officials and footage showed passengers and rail staff among the casualties, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack “savage,” accusing Moscow of knowingly striking civilians. Kyiv and independent reporting say the strike is part of a near-daily Kremlin campaign targeting Ukraine’s railway and energy infrastructure to disrupt military logistics and to “weaponize” the approaching winter. Separately, Ukraine reported a major overnight barrage that damaged gas facilities—Naftogaz described it as the largest strike on its gas infrastructure since 2022—and hit power sites, leaving tens of thousands without electricity in northern regions. Ukraine has vowed retaliatory strikes on Russian energy targets, urged stronger international action, and said rescuers and energy crews are working to stabilise the situation as the conflict nears its fourth winter.
