Five Set for King George VI at Ascot
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot will feature a high-quality but small field of just five runners, with confirmed fast ground for the race. Calandagan, fresh off a Group 1 win in France, is considered a leading contender and may benefit from the quicker conditions after being narrowly beaten by Jan Brueghel in the Coronation Cup at Epsom. Jan Brueghel, representing Ballydoyle, is praised for stamina but could be disadvantaged by the ground, and will be supported by Continuous, who is expected to set the pace. Veteran international campaigner Rebel's Romance is also in the mix, seeking his 19th win, but faces younger opposition. The field no longer includes Kalpana, and the depth of the lineup has led analysts to recommend caution for bettors. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard could further establish his reputation if Calandagan claims victory, following his success with Goliath last year.
