Firefighters Reunite With Baby Delivered at 22 Weeks

On Father’s Day, Charlotte Firehouse 21 firefighters reunited with baby Leilani and her family nearly six months after saving her life during an emergency home delivery. Halena Khen, who did not know she was pregnant, gave birth to Leilani at 20-22 weeks gestation, with the baby weighing just one pound, seven ounces. The firefighters initially feared she was stillborn, but were relieved when Leilani cried, prompting immediate life-saving measures before taking her to the hospital. Leilani spent four months in the NICU and is now thriving. Her mother stayed in touch with the firefighters, regularly updating them on her recovery. Fire Chief Reginald Johnson commended the crew’s quick response and teamwork during the critical event.
