San Antonio Floods Kill 13, Spark Investigation
San Antonio experienced catastrophic flash flooding on June 12, 2025, after record rainfall exceeding 6 inches led to the deaths of 13 people, primarily around Beitel Creek and Leon Creek. More than a dozen vehicles were swept away, and emergency crews performed over 70 water rescues. About 30,000 residents lost power during the disaster. The city has initiated an investigation, including an independent engineering analysis, to determine causes and improve future preparedness, with results to be publicly released. Vigils are being organized by local nonprofits to honor the victims. Similar storms caused additional fatalities and led to a state of emergency in West Virginia.
