Minnesota Lawmakers Shooting Suspect Captured After Two-Day Manhunt
Vance Boelter, 57, was arrested after a two-day manhunt in Minnesota following the politically motivated shootings of state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, who were killed, and Democratic Senator John Hoffman and his wife, who were critically injured but have since undergone surgery. Boelter, who allegedly disguised himself as a police officer to carry out the attacks, was found near his farm in Green Isle after being spotted on a trail by a camera, and was armed at the time of arrest. The manhunt, described as the largest in Minnesota's history, involved hundreds of detectives and 20 SWAT teams, with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter's capture. Authorities recovered Boelter’s vehicle and a cowboy hat believed to be his near Highway 25 in Sibley County, between Green Isle and Belle Plaine. Governor Tim Walz expressed cautious optimism regarding the Hoffmans' recovery, while Speaker Lisa Demuth thanked law enforcement for their efforts in apprehending Boelter alive so he can be prosecuted. The suspect faces two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection to the shootings.
