Cardinals Promote Granillo, Siani, Designate Vilade, Send Roycroft Triple-A
The St. Louis Cardinals have called up right-handed reliever Andre Granillo and outfielder Michael Siani from Triple-A Memphis while optioning right-handed pitcher Chris Roycroft back to Triple-A and designating outfielder Ryan Vilade for assignment ahead of a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Granillo, 25, is set to make his major league debut after an impressive season in Triple-A with a 4-0 record, 1.82 ERA, 46 strikeouts, and only eight walks in 29 2/3 innings. Siani, also 25, has shown strong defensive skills and could see more playing time due to an outfield slump, batting .263 with five homers and eight steals in 33 games at Triple-A. Vilade struggled with the Cardinals this season, hitting just .077 in seven games, while Roycroft posted a 6.92 ERA in 14 relief appearances. These roster moves aim to bolster the Cardinals' pitching and outfield options as they contend with injuries and performance issues. The team is adjusting its lineup with Jordan Walker still on a minor league rehab assignment and Victor Scott II experiencing a slump in center field.
