ICE Arrests Illegal Immigrant After Illinois Judge Releases Him Post-Decapitation Charges
Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a 52-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, was re-arrested by ICE in Chicago after initially being released by Lake County Judge Randie Bruno despite being charged with concealing, abusing, and decapitating the body of 37-year-old Megan Bos. Bos was reported missing in March 2025, and her decapitated body was found in a bleach-filled storage container on Mendoza-Gonzalez’s property in Waukegan, Illinois, after being hidden for nearly two months. Mendoza-Gonzalez allegedly told authorities Bos overdosed at his home and instead of calling emergency services, he broke her phone and concealed her body first in his basement and later outside. The judge’s decision to release Mendoza-Gonzalez shortly after his arrest sparked outrage from local officials and immigration authorities, who criticized the Illinois SAFE-T Act for abolishing cash bail and enabling the release. Antioch Mayor Scott Gartner and DHS officials condemned the release, emphasizing the danger Mendoza-Gonzalez posed to public safety, while Bos’ family demanded reforms to prevent similar cases. The incident highlights growing concerns over judicial decisions and state laws that critics argue compromise law enforcement efforts and public security.
