IU Restores Indiana Daily Student Print Edition
Indiana University reversed its decision to halt print editions of the student newspaper, the Indiana Daily Student, and said printing will resume with the next issue scheduled for Nov. 20. Bloomington Chancellor David Reingold acknowledged the university “has not handled recent decisions as well as we should have,” affirmed IU’s commitment to a free and independent student press, and authorized the IDS to use its budget “as the editors see fit” through June 30, 2026. The reversal follows weeks of criticism and allegations of censorship after the university fired the student media director and initially cut the paper’s print edition; university officials say the moves were driven by financial concerns, citing an annual deficit near $300,000, and deny any intent to censor editorial content. IDS editors welcomed the decision, noted the university dropped an initial directive that barred printing news, and pressed for greater transparency. Terminated adviser Jim Rodenbush has sued the university alleging constitutional violations, and some alumni had canceled donations amid the controversy.
