Turkish Petroleum Advances Sakarya Gas Field Phase 3 With Baker Hughes Subsea Contracts

News summary

Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) and Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) have contracted Baker Hughes to supply subsea production and intelligent completion systems for Phase 3 of the Sakarya Gas Field development in the Black Sea. Baker Hughes will deliver deepwater horizontal tree systems, subsea structures, and advanced control systems to enable production at depths between 6,500 and 7,200 feet, incorporating multizonal subsurface control technologies to optimize production in the field's thin-layered reservoirs. The project also includes a $1.5 billion engineering, procurement, construction, and installation contract awarded to Saipem, which will install eight rigid flowlines and a 183-km export pipeline using its Castorone vessel in 2027. The third phase involves connecting 27 wells from the Sakarya and Amasra fields to a new floating production unit, which will send gas through the new trunkline to onshore facilities at Filyos. Baker Hughes has been involved with the Sakarya project since 2022, providing reservoir evaluations and lower completions solutions tailored to the field's unique geology. This collaboration is part of Turkiye’s strategic energy development, aiming to secure long-term domestic gas supply and enhance the country's energy independence.
