Sporting President Denies £59m Gyokeres Sale Amid Transfer Dispute
Viktor Gyokeres, the prolific Swedish striker at Sporting Lisbon, is at the center of a transfer dispute with the club as he is linked to Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus, and Saudi Pro League teams. Sporting president Frederico Varandas denies any promise to sell Gyokeres for around €60 million plus bonuses, stating no offers have been received and that the club will not demand the full €100 million release clause but is aiming for a higher fee than initially reported. Gyokeres is reportedly furious with Sporting for reneging on a gentleman's agreement to allow him to leave for a reduced fee and has informed the club he will no longer play for them, even threatening to interrupt his holiday to publicly address the situation. Sporting head coach Rui Borges has remained evasive on Gyokeres' future, emphasizing the club's focus starts anew on July 1, while Gyokeres has removed references to Sporting from his social media accounts, highlighting the tension. Despite an £84 million release clause, the club now reportedly demands closer to €80 million (£67 million), complicating transfer negotiations. Manchester United remains a frontrunner for the striker, but outgoing transfers may be necessary before a deal can be finalized.
