Mother Sentenced for Murdering Two-Year-Old Daughter

Shilyrand Charigwati, a 30-year-old nurse from Hemel Hempstead, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years after being found guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Roselyn. The incident occurred at Charigwati’s home in April 2024, when Roselyn was suffocated with a plastic bag. Charigwati had initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, citing mental illness, but was found guilty of murder by a jury. The court heard Charigwati had lost custody of Roselyn and was experiencing depressive illness at the time. The judge described her actions as a shocking abuse of trust, noting that 'spousal revenge' was a factor in the killing.
